SINGLES MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION TO REVEAL MORE INTIMATE INFORMATION TO IMPROVE ONLINE DATING IN 2004
In FriendFinder Survey, Singles Overwhelmingly Agree Revealing Online Personality More Important than Glamour Photo as Key to Finding “The One”
PALO ALTO, CA ‒ December 31, 2003 -- In a survey of more than 600 of its 20 million members, FriendFinder, the world’s leading online dating destination, found that the majority have resolved to offer more intimate details in their online profiles as their 2004 strategy for dating success. In fact, 61 percent of singles surveyed plan to fill out a personality “love test” or jazz up their online description with more intimate and revealing details to improve their online attractiveness quotient. Only 20 percent thought upgrading their online image with glamorous photos would improve their chances in the New Year.
One of the first online dating networks to add psychological testing to its arsenal of dating tools, FriendFinder’s online ‘Personality Love Types’ test is tailored to reveal the best personality profile for a match. The test accurately measures what many psychologists consider to be the central components, and fundamental dimensions of personality, enabling users to better understand their public perception as well as their greatest strengths and biggest vulnerabilities. Consisting of less than 20 questions that can be completed in five minutes, the test was custom designed for FriendFinder by a psychologist and a cultural anthropologist.
“By studying millions of members over the years, we’ve found that what people are really looking for is that special friend or partner ‒ that one in a million ‒ who shares their goals, values, background and lifestyle,” said FriendFinder CEO Andrew Conru. “We’re constantly adding new features to the FriendFinder social network to help our members find that special someone. Recently we added a profile editing service that has helped thousands of our members improve and expand their dating profiles too.”
“Many online dating services and social networks put a heavy emphasis on looks and ‘hotness’ but don’t help their members write better profiles or reveal details about their personality and values,” Conru added. “So many mistakenly think a dazzling photograph is the most important factor in online matchmaking, and today’s survey reveals that is a misconception. In fact, the reason why the Internet has proved to be so successful is that it allows singles to get to know each other at a much deeper level than is possible by just viewing a video or meeting someone in a bar.”
No more “one size fits all” matchmaking
In contrast to the “one-size-fits-all” mentality of other online social networking services, FriendFinder’s 15 targeted online dating sites enable singles to select their ideal partners based on key cultural, age, religious and sexual interests. The FriendFinder network includes the flagship FriendFinder dating and friendship website, as well as communities for specific demographics (Senior FriendFinder, OutPersonals); religions (BigChurch, Jewish FriendFinder), cultures (Asia FriendFinder, Amigos, German FriendFinder, French FriendFinder, Korean FriendFinder, Filipino FriendFinder) and for intimate dating (Adult FriendFinder, Passion.com and Alt.com.)
More than 60,000 new members sign up every day and 30 million new and repeat visitors visit the network every month. With more than 60 million registered users representing every country in the world, nearly 1% of the planet has been a member of the FriendFinder network at one time or another.
